This year marks Columbia Bhangra’s most ambitious yet. We’re officially hosting Bhangra in the Heights XVII (B-Heights), NYC’s only Bhangra competition! Not only that, but for the first time since the pandemic, we have the opportunity to compete at two competitions in the same season: Madtown Bhangra (Madison, Wisconsin) and Nachle Deewane (Santa Barbara, California)! We’ve been working hard to make this happen and would love your support to help make these events and exciting vision for the future a reality. | The theme for B-Heights this year, “Roots Reimagined,” captures this journey that we’ve taken as a team. It represents the delicate balance of simultaneously honoring tradition while drawing thoughtful inspiration from modernity, and it motivates everything that we’re aiming to accomplish this year. Bhangra is more than just a dance form; it's a heartfelt cultural expression, a connection to generations of dancers before us, and a source of immense joy. Delving into the depths of Bhangra's rich tradition this past year has brought us closer as a team and deepened our love for this vibrant lok naach (folk dance) and how it’s expressed today. Thank you for being a part of our Bhangra journey! | With love, Columbia Bhangra <3
